In this wrongful death case, Corneille Law Group successfully defended a cardiothoracic surgeon against allegations that the surgeon negligently performed a complex heart surgery. In particular, the Plaintiff alleged that one of the three procedures performed during the surgery was unnecessary and that the surgeon failed to properly respond to a tear in the patient's ascending aorta that developed during the procedure. The defense argued that the procedure in question was necessary and that the surgeon's response to the aortic tear was appropriate. The jury unanimously found in favor of the defense and concluded that the surgeon was not negligent. The Plaintiff was therefore awarded nothing.
